One of my greatest inspirations.
Nicko Eugene L. Canlas
Honestly, he’s one of my most dignified bestfriends I could ever ask for. I know that I talk about him a lot, but it’s just he’s so amazing I can’t even resist not having him on my tumblog. Nicko. Nicko. When it comes down to basic facts, he’ll always be there for you. Yeah, I used always because he does it. It may not seem like it, but when the time comes, he shines so brightly when you do get the time to talk to him. We met back in middle school. I still remember the first set of words he told me, “Hi Alvin, I’m Nicko. [:” He also had that big puppy dog smile he usually has. And because of Yusoph “Joey” Ombra I was able to meet one of my bros that would stick by me until who knows when. Instead of wondering where we’ll end, I’ll enjoy every moment I have with my bestfriend. He taught me how to stand up for myself. He taught me that I can open my defensive heart when I’m ready. Slowly, and steadily, his words seeped into me. The reason why I’m an open book now, is because of Nicko. He really did read me and he did his best to understand me. When I finally noticed that, I thought to myself, “maybe the world isn’t full of bad people, I just have to know where to look..” What amazed me the most, is that when I finally did open up to him, Nicko was casual about it.
Me: Nicko, I have to tell you something important
Nicko: Yeah, go ahead.
Me: …I’m bi
Nicko: So?
When he said that, I had one of those movie moments where I would respond, “oh alright then..” I smiled at the fact that he didn’t look at me differently. He kept telling me, “don’t be afraid of being yourself bro.” And that’s the only advice I needed that would keep me going to where I am now. Whatever I did wrong, he talked it out with me. He told me he was afraid to lose a bestfriend. That’s where our bestfriendship started. We became closer, and with every problem I would have, he would be one of those friends who came and lent me their hand. He protects me. And I protect him too. From ourselves. Because our own minds can be our greatest enemies. He showed me how much better I could be, he showed me I can be, I can be.
